Exchange rates

See our current exchange rates for international bank transfers.

The rate above is the latest Barclays reference exchange rate.

If you ask us to make a payment in a different currency, we’ll add a currency conversion charge to the Barclays reference exchange rate to create the exchange rate for your transaction.

For payments up to £25,000 the conversion charge will be no more than 2.75%.

For payments above £25,000 the conversion charge will reduce as the amount increases.

We'll show you exactly what the exchange rate will be before you make your payment in the Barclays app, Online Banking, or in a branch.

We set the Barclays reference exchange rate based on the market exchange rates for the two currencies.

We were unable to retrieve your foreign rate request. Please try again or contact us if this keeps happening.

What about fees?

Your payment will either be a SEPA payment or a Barclays International Payment.

  • SEPA means ‘Single Euro Payments Area’. It’s a way of making quick, easy and safe euro payments within the European Economic Area (EEA). SEPA payments are fee-free and should arrive the same day. We’ll check that your recipient’s bank accepts SEPA payments before you send the money.
  • Charges for Barclays International Payment vary. They can include:

    • An overseas bank charge from £4 to £12

    • A USD cover charge of £3, if you’re sending USD to countries other than the US

    • A fee of £25 for making a payment in a branch.
